Samuel Lino: The Rising Star of Flamengo

Samuel Lino is going through an incredible phase and has emerged as one of the main players for Flamengo and the Brazilian national team. Confirmation came with the beautiful goal he scored in the win against Remo, a feat that put the Rubro-Negro in the lead of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

A Forward in Form

Even though yesterday’s goal earned him plenty of applause, Samuel Lino has been standing out for some time now. In his last ten Brasileirão matches, he found the back of the net eight times and also provided two assists—an impressive average of goal involvement per game!

In the match against Remo, the shirt 16 was in the right place, at the right time. With a well-organized defense from the Paraense side, Lino managed to shake off his marker and received a wonderful pass from Arrascaeta. The result? A goal with that “little poke” worthy of Romário!

“It was a complicated victory, in a difficult pitch, with heat and even rain. Flamengo played like warriors, showed strength and unity, and we came away with all three points. I’m happy to have scored and helped the team. [The goal] was like Romário’s, right? A nice little poke.” – Samuel Lino, on Premiere.

Leading the Championship

That goal also had even more impact because of what came next. With the win, Flamengo reached 54 points and, at the moment, sits atop the Brasileirão. The position was cemented with the draw between Botafogo and Palmeiras, which ended with 53 points.

Winning Partnership

Lino’s great run can also be attributed to the work of coach Leonardo Jardim. With Filipe Luís, he had already scored six goals and made eight assists in 42 matches. And now, under the Portuguese manager’s direction, the numbers exploded: ten goals and seven assists in 32 matches.

This great moment for Samuel Lino comes at just the right time! Next Wednesday (9), coach Carlo Ancelotti will call up the Brazilian national team for friendlies after the World Cup. Brazil will face Australia on 25 and 29 September, and India on 3 October.

Lino may get a chance to wear the Amarelinha again, after nearly a year out of the squad. His only call-up was in September of 2025, when he only came off the bench against Chile and played 61 minutes against Bolivia in the Qualifiers. But for now, he’s keeping his feet on the ground about the possibility.
