Flamengo and Corinthians: A Game of Ups and Downs

Flamengo had considerable control over Corinthians, but failed to turn that superiority into a lopsided scoreline; instead, they came away with a win of 2 to 1, which keeps them at the top of the Brasileirão. This analysis was made by Juca Kfouri on the Posse de Bola program on the UOL channel.

The First Half: Missed Chances

Juca pointed out that, in the first stage, the team coached by Leonardo Jardim dominated the match, especially compared to Fernando Diniz’s reserves, who weren’t able to do much. The first half ended scoreless, but Flamengo could easily have been ahead, at least by 3 or 4 to 0!

• One emblematic moment came when Pedro tried to score with his chest, but Hugo made an incredible save, and Tchoca, down on the ground, managed to prevent a goal on the line. According to Juca, this sequence is one of those rarities you only see on the pitch.

Second Half: The Goal and the Corinthians Surprise

Right at the start of the second half, Flamengo finally shook the net, but instead of maintaining the pressure, they seemed to ease off, as if the match were already decided. And, of course, Corinthians took advantage of that opportunity and scored, in a move started by Kaio César.

Comparison with Palmeiras x São Paulo

Juca also made an interesting observation about the match between Palmeiras and São Paulo, where Palmeiras won 2 to 0. Unlike Flamengo, the game was more balanced until Osório’s sending off, at 39 minutes.

“The São Paulo, while they had 11 players, held firm against Palmeiras and even had the best scoring chance in the first half. But a childish red card from a young player ended up helping Palmeiras secure the three points, even if the team still left something to be desired,” analyzed Kfouri.
