Match marked by an injury: Juventude vs Athletic-MG

Recently, the clash between Juventude and Athletic-MG in the 28th round of the Série B was etched into the fans’ memories, and not only because of the result. What really shocked everyone happened last Sunday, 13 October, at Estádio Alfredo Jaconi.

What happened?

Just 11 minutes into the first half, forward Carlinhos, who is from Flamengo but is currently on loan to Athletic, got involved in a tricky play. The Athletic defense tried to clear the ball, and Carlinhos went into a confrontation with the defenders in attack. In an attempt to redirect it with his head, the poor guy ended up colliding face-first with the defender Gabriel Pinheiro, from Juventude. And, as you can imagine, he came off worse.

He fell to the pitch, and within seconds, players from both teams realized the situation was serious and went to help him. Athletic’s medical team also stepped onto the field, and after a few minutes of treatment, Carlinhos was taken off on a stretcher and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

New information about the injury

On Monday, 14 October, Athletic released a statement confirming that Carlinhos suffered a traumatic brain injury, but fortunately he is fine and not in any danger of life. The tests also indicated fractures in the facial region, but the good news is that surgery will not be necessary for now.

Who is Carlinhos?

Now, talking a bit about the player, Carlinhos is 29 years old and began his career at Corinthians, where he caught attention in the youth ranks, but he was never able to establish himself professionally. He went through some clubs in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, but returned to shine at Nova Iguaçu, in the campaign that took the team to the final of the Carioca Championship of 2024 — and guess what? They lost the title to Flamengo.

After that, the Flamengo wasted no time and signed him. However, Carlinhos had limited involvement, with only 20 matches and 5 goals. Since then, he has gone on loans to clubs such as Vitória, Remo, and now the Athletic, where he is expected to stay until November. His contract with Fla ends at the end of the year.

So, everyone—let’s hope for Carlinhos’s quick recovery! ???
