Richarlison and Vasco: The Romance That Didn’t Work Out

What happened? The relationship between Richarlison and Vasco was nearly set for a happy ending. However, on the last day of the transfer window, the forward decided not to accept the terms of the deal, even with Tottenham’s approval. Cruzmaltino was offering a release clause in January, which was exactly what the player wanted.

What Richarlison wanted

UOL sources indicate that, if the deal had gone through, Richarlison would have received around R$ 12 million by December. But even so, he decided he would only leave if he could secure the termination through the courts, as already hinted by the YouTuber “Pilhado.” Following the guidance of his team, Richarlison didn’t want to commit to a long contract, even with the release clause.

The outcome

Without the termination and with the deadlock, the negotiation didn’t work out, and Richarlison ended up staying at Tottenham, where he was not registered for the Premier League.

After the negotiations were finalized, the forward recorded a video for his social media in which he explained the entire situation and thanked the affection of Vasco fans, who even launched an internet campaign in his defense. He reiterated that his priority was to play for Vasco until December, even with offers from other clubs.

“I made it clear to Pedrinho and Felipe that I wanted to defend Vasco until December. Other proposals came up, but my focus was Vasco,” he said. Richarlison also mentioned that Tottenham exceeded the loan limit, which made the deal impossible. “I want to thank you, Vasco fans, for the messages of affection and for all the support. I hope that, in the next opportunity, we’ll be able to make this dream come true,” he concluded.
