Brazilian Clubs Heading Toward a Historic Mark in the Semifinals!

Brazilian clubs are about to make history! Fans can get excited, because we are close to having seven semifinalists in the Libertadores and South American competitions. That means Brazil can secure 87,5% of the spots! Isn’t that something?

Currently, we have eight representatives in the quarterfinals of these competitions. However, there’s one detail: Santos and Atlético-MG are facing each other in the South American, so only one of them will move on, while the other will be eliminated.

A Curious Fact...

So far, no country has managed to gather more than five representatives in the semifinals of these two competitions. Brazil has already reached that mark in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and Argentina also had the same number in 2020. This survey considers the period starting from the creation of the South American in 2002. In other words, disputes before then were not counted!

Are you already thinking about the Libertadores of 2026? It could have semifinals only with Brazilian clubs! On the left side of the bracket, Flamengo will face Independiente del Valle from Ecuador, while Corinthians takes on Estudiantes from Argentina. On the other side, Palmeiras plays LDU, also from Ecuador, and Fluminense will go head-to-head with Platense from Argentina.

Brazilian Teams Dominating the South American!

In the South American, Brazilians occupy three of the four quarterfinal matches:

Vasco and São Paulo face Independiente Santa Fe (Colombia) and Boca Juniors (Argentina), respectively.
Meanwhile, Santos and Atlético-MG are squaring off. The winner of this matchup will take on Cienciano (Peru) or Montevideo City Torque (Uruguay) in the semifinal.

Fluminense x Platense
- The team from Rio won the first match by 2 to 0. Today, they head to Argentina and can lose by up to a one-goal difference to qualify. If they lose by two goals, the tie goes to penalties.

- Alviverde won 1 to 0 on their home turf. Tomorrow, they visit LDU, and a draw already guarantees qualification. If they lose by one goal, we go to penalties.
Corinthians x Estudiantes
- Brazilians and Argentines drew 1 to 1 in the first match. Tomorrow, at Itaquera, whoever wins advances to the playoffs. If there’s another draw, we’ll have penalties!
Flamengo x Independiente del Valle
- Flamengo won the first match by 2 to 0 in Quito. Now, at the Maracanã, they can lose by up to one goal to move on. If they lose by two goals, we’ll have to wait for penalties.

South American

São Paulo x Boca Juniors
- The Tricolor lost the first match by 1 to 0. Today, they need to win by two or more goals at Morumbi to advance directly. Wins by a one-goal margin send the tie to penalties.
Vasco x Independiente Santa Fe
- The first match ended in 0 to 0. Today, in Rio de Janeiro, whoever wins goes to the semifinal. Another draw leads to penalties.
Santos x Atlético-MG
- Santos won 2 to 0 in the first leg. Tomorrow, in the return match, they can lose by up to one goal to advance, while Atlético-MG needs to win by three goals or more to secure passage. If Galo wins by two goals, we go straight to penalties.
