Injuries at Santos: Goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão is out!

Santos isn’t off to an easy start to the season, and to make matters worse, it has just lost one of its key players. Star goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão suffered an injury to his right shoulder and will need to undergo surgery. The forecast is that he will be out for a long time, and rumors are circulating that he may only return to action in 2027!

This news first came to light via the Setorista da Vila channel on YouTube, and, according to a scoop from UOL, the back problem had already been troubling the goalkeeper for a few weeks. On the 1º of September, there was a meeting between the player, the coaching staff, and the medical department, and the decision was that surgery was indeed necessary. However, they opted to postpone the procedure until the end of the Copa do Brasil and Copa Sul-Americana competitions.

Unfortunately, this pain didn’t affect only Brazão’s health—his performances in the most recent matches weren’t at the level that was expected. With Santos eliminated from both cups, it became clear that there was no longer any way to keep pushing this operation forward. As a result, the goalkeeper will be out of the team for an indefinite period. In fact, it’s highly likely that he won’t play against Remo this coming Saturday (19).

With all this change, now it’s time for coach Cuca and the goalkeeping coaches to step up and decide who will take Brazão’s place.
