Jorginho of Flamengo Speaks Out After a Tense Meeting in the Libertadores

Flamengo player Jorginho decided to make a statement on social media after being sent off during the draw in 1 to 1 against Independiente del Valle, in a match that was the second leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals. The good news is that the Rubro-Negro had already secured his place in the semifinals with a win of 2 to 0 in the first match!

A Mistake and a Thank-You

In his post, Jorginho didn’t dodge responsibility and talked about the “unfortunate act of making a mistake.” See what he said:

“Unfortunately, a mistake is part of football and today I was unfortunate enough to make one. But it’s precisely in moments like these that we show the strength of this group and that we are Flamengo like the Nation showed.” – Jorginho on Instagram

The Match and Flamengo’s Future

Jorginho’s sending off happened at 19 minutes into the second half, when Flamengo was already losing by 1 to 0. And to make matters worse, Del Valle even had a goal disallowed! But with a master touch, Arrascaeta capitalized on a keeper’s mistake and leveled the match.

Now, Flamengo has a new challenge ahead: the Libertadores semifinal against Estudiantes! The games take place in the weeks of 13 and 20 in October. The first will be in Argentina, and the second leg will be at our beloved Maracanã.
