A New Generation of Brazilian Football in Focus

Before the second friendly against Australia, which took place last Tuesday, the head coach of the Brazilian national team, Carlo Ancelotti, sent a clear message to the Gen Z: “We’re keeping an eye on all young people with Brazilian passports, especially those born as of 2009, who are already standing out,” he said in an interview with Sportv. 😎

The Future Points to 2030

This message from Ancelotti is directly for the kids in the under-17 category, aged between 16 and 17 years old, and who, in 2030, will be ready to shine at the World Cup. Right now, the under-17 team is preparing for the World Cup for the age category, scheduled to take place from 19 November to 13 December, in Qatar.

Several Call-Ups and Many Promises

In 2026, five call-ups have already been made so far — in February, April (South American), June, August, and September. The next list to be released will be the final one for the World Cup. UOL did a nice roundup of these selections and highlighted 16 players who have been called up at least three times.

Here is the list of the guri who stood out the most:

  • Eduardo Conceição (17 years, Palmeiras): This midfielder is the real gem in development. Born in São Paulo, he has been called up on all five occasions and has drawn the attention of several European clubs. Palmeiras, for example, rejected several offers of €15 million (about R$ 88 million) and set the release clause at €50 million (about R$ 295 million).

  • Eduardo Pepe (17 years, Cruzeiro): Born in Maravilha (SC), he has also appeared in every call-up. Top scorer of the under-17 South American and a standout in the Copinha, he renewed his contract until 2029, with a buyout clause of €100 million (R$ 591 million). But Raposa could release the youngster for €30 million (R$ 177 million).

  • Kauê Furquim (17 years, Bahia): Born in Guarulhos, he already has 14 appearances for the senior team and is the team’s top scorer this season with 8 goals in 12 matches. He has also been called up in all five occasions.

  • João Bezerra (17 years, Internacional): This forward is doing great and already has seven matches with the first team. Called up three times, he also shines in the youth categories, where he scored 30 goals in 41 matches for the under-20 team.

  • Breno Sales (17 years, Vasco): A left-footed center-back, he was called up for all five selections. He started as a winger and was later converted into a fullback, until he reached central defense. He has been monitored by clubs in Europe.
