Cruzeiro Gains Reinforcement: Paulinho Embarks on New Challenge

On last Monday (5), Cruzeiro announced an exciting update for its football department: Paulinho is the newest member of the team! With 38 years old, the former player comes from a recent stint at Mirassol, where he served as a football executive.

What to Expect From Paulinho?

The big announcement took over Cruzeiro’s social media! Although Paulinho’s exact role has not yet been disclosed, everything indicates that he will act as the link between the squad, the coaching staff, and the board. In other words, he will have a key role in connecting everyone at the club.

A Brief Career Retrospective

Last Saturday (3), Paulinho said goodbye to Mirassol—the team that was his first experience after retiring as a professional player in July of 2024. He joined the São Paulo side in December of the same year, initially as a technical coordinator, before being promoted to football executive. During his time at Mirassol, the club had a historic campaign in last year’s Série A, finishing in 4th place and securing an exciting spot for the Libertadores on its debut in the top tier of Brazilian football.

Before venturing behind the scenes, Paulinho was a standout player—especially for Corinthians, where he etched his name into history! With Timão, he won the Libertadores and the Club World Cup in 2012. He also had a low-profile stint at Tottenham, but it was at Guangzhou Evergrande in China that he turned things around. To complete it all, Paulinho shone at Barcelona during the season 2017/18, winning La Liga and the Copa del Rey. His return to Corinthians happened in 2022, and he remained there until his retirement, in 2024.

Achievements With the Brazilian National Team

With the Brazilian national team, Paulinho also did well! He played 56 matches and took part in the World Cups of 2014 and 2018. Not to mention that he won the Confederations Cup in 2013!
