International Seeks to Reduce Victor Gabriel’s Suspension
Internacional is looking for a chance to reduce the sentence of the defender Victor Gabriel, who was suspended after his tackle caused an injury to the midfielder Gabriel Pec, from Cruzeiro. In this case, the club filed a request with the STJD to have the suspension, which is lengthy, reduced.
What happened?
The initial ban imposed on Victor Gabriel was based on the condition of Gabriel Pec: he may only return to play when Pec resumes training, with a time limit of up to 180 days, as stipulated by the Código Brasileiro de Justiça Desportiva (CBJD). Therefore, the situation is delicate.
What Inter is trying to do is persuade the court to shorten Victor Gabriel’s penalty so that it is proportional to the time Pec will be out. This idea had already been suggested by the STJD during an earlier hearing.
How is Pec’s situation?
Inter consulted Cruzeiro’s medical department, and the information they have indicates that Pec must stay away from training until November and will still need at least another six weeks of recovery.
With November approaching, Inter believes that if the STJD agrees to the reduction, Victor Gabriel could even return to the pitch soon.
- If Pec returns to training on the 1th of November, Victor’s total penalty would be 96 days, resulting in a suspension of 48 days.
- On the other hand, if Pec only manages to return on the 30th of November, the total suspension extends to 125 days, splitting the penalty into 62,5 days.
Currently, Victor Gabriel is already serving 70 days of suspension. If the STJD accepts Inter’s proposal, he could be cleared to play in both of the scenarios mentioned.
Inter’s appeal
The attorney for Internacional, Rogério Pastl, also requested that this reduction of the penalty be accompanied by “performance of activities of public interest.” In practice, this would mean the defender could do community service as a way to offset the suspension.
The full panel of the STJD must review this request next week. It’s important to remember that this decision can be made by the president of the court, but Luís Otávio Veríssimo Teixeira has been taking issues of this kind to a vote among members.
Critical moment for Internacional
Inter is not in a good stretch in the Brasileirão. With only ten rounds remaining, the club is in 18th place, within the relegation zone. It’s a difficult phase and every player matters, including Victor Gabriel. Let’s keep an eye on this situation!
