Hot News About Vasco’s SAF!
The Sale That’s Causing a Stir
After the Deliberative Council approved the sale of the SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol) to Almirante Participações, Vasco president Pedrinho made it clear that the new investor has a financial power that’s the envy of many! The team will receive support from Mário Junqueira and Marcos Lammachia, the son of José Roberto Lamacchia, the owner of the famous Crefisa. And take a look—these guys aren’t messing around!
“Nothing was rushed. Everything was done with great caution and responsibility. We found a partner with enormous credibility and who has almost infinite money here in Brazil,” Pedrinho said.
Investments Up Front
With the contract in hand, the figures are impressive: Almirante Participações’ investment could exceed billions of reais, including:
- R$ 100 million per year, totaling up to R$ 500 million just for football
- R$ 150 million focused on the CT (Training Center) infrastructure for both the first team and the youth setup
- Almirante will take over all assets and debts of Vasco’s SAF, in addition to other obligations.
And there’s more: if there isn’t enough money to cover commitments such as tax debts or cash flow, Lamacchia will have to put more money from his own pocket, without increasing his stake.
According to consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal, this amount should be around R$ 1,5 billion up to 2030, but it may increase even further, based on what Pedrinho and his team commented.
“Taking on the debts is more important than the investments themselves or the stadium renovation. I solved the Vasco issue,” Pedrinho said confidently.
São Januário and the Rules of the Game
Almirante Participações will have the rights to use São Januário until 2030, paying R$ 3 million annually for the privilege and an additional R$ 2 million if they carry out renovations.
An important detail is that, in the SAF contract, it is prohibited to distribute profits to shareholders for the next ten years. The generated funds will be returned to the club, focused on football. And on top of that, they also can’t sell their share during this period.
If Almirante doesn’t meet the required capital contributions, the club will have the right to take a firmer stance and collect the debt.
Next Steps
But hold on, because the Deliberative Council’s approval doesn’t mean everything is settled! The last stage is the Extraordinary General Meeting, where the club’s members will vote. The expectation is that this will happen on 23 October.
Out of 204 votes, 175 councilors voted in favor, but there were 26 against and 3 who abstained. Almirante is riding high, already counting on a positive opinion from the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding the approval of the SAF auction held on 25 September.
Double Oversight
But it’s not just that! The Anresf (National Agency for Regulation and Sustainability in Football) is also keeping an eye on everything. In August, they opened an investigation to check whether there is control or significant influence by the same person or group over more than one club. This is because Marcos Lammachia is Leila Pereira’s stepson, president of Palmeiras.
While this investigation moves forward, Anresf has already prohibited Vasco and Palmeiras from swapping favors—meaning they can’t do business with each other.
Almirante Participações stated that it will make whatever adjustments are necessary, respecting Anresf’s determinations, while Leila remains in charge of Palmeiras until December 2027.
So, what did you think of this new phase for Vasco? Lots of money and many developments ahead! Let’s keep an eye on it!
